The AHMS team are professional heritage consultants with honours or equivalent level academic qualifications in archaeology, anthropology, planning and related disciplines.                                                                                              

AHMS is well recognised professionally and is included on key Government and Industry professional panels and consultant's lists, including:

Peter Douglas
Director

25 years experience in cultural heritage management in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.

Specialising in:

·       Aboriginal and historic heritage archaeology.

·       Cultural Heritage Management Plans, heritage values identification and impact assessments.

·       Archaeological modelling, site formation processes, field methods, Human burial site  identification, excavation and management.

25 years experience in Town Planning and cultural resource management in State and local government and the private sector

Specialising in:

·        Town Planning – development assessments and strategic planning especially heritage plans, provisions, overlays, curtilages and DCPs.

·         EPBC Act and Commonwealth and Defence heritage sites and management.

·         Landscape, archaeological and industrial significance assessments and heritage values identification & impact assessments.

·         Conservation Management Plans, heritage portfolio management.

·         Historical geography,  community consultation, collections and movable heritage management, policies and guidelines, interpretation, team and quality management.  

 

Jim Wheeler
Manager

12 years experience in Australia and Ireland

 Specialising in:

·         Extensive experience in managing a wide range of Aboriginal sites in NSW and Victoria.

·         Aboriginal community consultation and mediation.   

·         Specialist in developing innovative methodologies for CHMPs and field techniques, survey, sampling and testing strategies, geomorphology, recording, analysis techniques. 

·         Problem solving and developing impact mitigation options in development contexts.                                 

 

Matthew Kelly
Senior Consultant

20 years experience in Australia and Europe.

Specialising in:

·         Historical archaeology, management planning and excavation direction on State Significant Sites.

 

Graham Wilson
Senior Consultant

30 years experience in Australia and Norfolk Island.

Specialising in:

·        Historical archaeology, geo-archaeology, finds, excavation direction and excavation  techniques

 

Alan Williams
Senior Consultant

10 years experience in Australia, South America and Europe.

Specialising in:

·         Aboriginal archaeology, palaeoclimatology, geomorphology, geochronology

 

Felicity Barry
Consultant

8 years experience in Australia.

Specialising in:

·         Aboriginal and historical archaeology, stone artefact analysis and survey techniques.

Sophie Brettell
Consultant

8 years experience in Australia. Europe, Asia and East Africa.

Specialising in:

·        Historical archaeology, historical cemetries, built heritage.

·         Interpretation plans and archival recording.

 

Laura Matarese

Erica Walther

Broad Victorian experience in Aboriginal and historical Archaeology - archaeological assessments, impact assessments, formal excavation, and field surveys

Specialising in:

·        Historical and Indigenous research in general, and specifically in research, fieldwork associated with completing CHMP’s under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (VIC)

                                                   

Samantha Bolton
Consultant

Experience in Australia, Europe, Africa and Asia. Currently studying for a PhD at University of Western Australia and a Graduate Diploma in Geographic Information Science at Curtin University.

Specialising in:

·         Historical archaeology

·         Aboriginal archaeology (particularly within Western Australia)

·         GIS (Geographic Information Systems)  

 

Adam Paterson
Consultant

Currently based in Adelaide, where he is a PhD candidate in historical heritage management at Flinders University. He is supported in this venture by an Australian Research Council scholarship, in addition to industry partnerships with AHMS and a range of other stakeholder groups with interests in the outcome of his research work.

In addition to his PhD studies Adam remains a member of the AHMS team.
